More details Recent advancements in pavement engineering have introduced innovative materials and methods to enhance asphalt performance and promote road sustainability. Among these, encapsulated asphalt rejuvenators are gaining attention for their potential in extending the lifespan of pavements by promoting asphalt’s self-healing capabilities.

This presentation provides a comprehensive review of the latest research conducted on encapsulated rejuvenators, with a particular focus on the re-evaluation of their working mechanism. Recent studies have demonstrated the potential of the encapsulating structure to mitigate asphalt ravelling due to its energy absorption properties. These include a thorough assessment of Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) manufactured at an asphalt plant after scaling up the production of encapsulated rejuvenators, as well as a fundamental study involving the use of 3D-printed lattice structures.
