The DfT and National Highways ‘Connected and
Autonomous Plant’ (CAP) Project aims to enhance
construction safety and has the potential to improve
productivity by £200 billion if adopted by 2040.
In 2024, the SANY autonomous paving and compaction
fleet completed a 158km road project with single
paving pass widths up to 19.25m. This project offers
insights into Europe's future construction practices,
drawing lessons from China's connected and
autonomous construction technologies.
